Fort Point is a gorgeous spot for POTA in San Francisco. Tucked next to the Golden Gate Bridge, the civil war seacoast fortification features great views of the San Francisco Bay, including both the bridge and Alcatraz prison.
While the location is popular and gets lots of foot traffic, there is a bench at the back of a small grassy area tucked away from the foot paths and road. A perfect for POTA. It’s directly next to the parking lot and easily accessible.

I usually carry both an end-fed half-wave and a quarter wave telescoping vertical antenna so that I have options depending on the conditions of a location. For this activation I didn’t want to attract too much attention and was wary of taking to much space. I opted for my Gabil 7350TC loaded vertical attached to their GRA-GNT miniature tripod. Even with six 17ft ground radials, there was plenty of space between the antenna and passersby. Paired with a Xiegu G90, I racked up the minimum 10 contacts easily. We will definitely be returning to this spot. It is too pretty to pass up.
